Description

Operating from its central office at Hazra Road, Kolkata, Legal Aid Services, West Bengal has spent over four decades championing prisoners' rights, custodial justice, and legal entitlements for vulnerable individuals. The association handles family dispute conciliations, domestic issues, and civil grievances outside conventional courtrooms through specialized mediation clinics. Apart from free proactive legal counseling, LASWEB actively hosts rights awareness workshops, judicial colloquia, and academic courses aimed at expanding local grassroots legal literacy and public empowerment throughout various districts in West Bengal.

Legal Aid Service WB is a pioneering, non-political, state-level non-governmental organization (NGO) established in September 1980. Functioning as an organic collective of retired judges, practicing lawyers, and social activists, LASWEB focuses on empowering poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged populations across West Bengal. Headquartered in Kalighat, Kolkata, the organization provides free legal aid, litigational support, pre-litigational family counseling, alternative dispute resolution (mediation/lok adalats), and hosts an affiliated Post Graduate Diploma Course in Guidance and Counseling under Calcutta University.
